Prior to becoming a pimp mage, yes.

So how is the painting coming along?

I finished 12 more Spearelves to bring the unit up to 29. Wips are: BSB Noble (mostly finished except the banner, shield and corrections); Mounted Noble (part way through highlights); 20 Phoenix Guard (almost finished the foundation layer); 10 Ellyrian Reavers (almost finished the foundation layer).

I have a bunch of elves that are nearly finished but I needed to take a break from them for a bit so I painted a vampire and some ghouls. The ghouls are still work in progress so they still need the fine details painted, the red hari/spines highlighted, and possibly another wash or drybrush layer over the main skin. The options for the skin are: leaving them as they are since it is fairly ok as is, or brush over with some commando khaki, or maybe wash them with a colour wash, perhaps a different shade for different ghouls, like 5 as purple, 5 as green, 5, red, five blue, etc. Then drybrush over that with the khaki.

A couple of WIP of my two nobles. The banner needs a bit more work and I didn't highlight and shade the mounted lord yet (well, not beyond the horse).

Right now the eagle is just retributor gold with a brown wash over it. To finish it I'll just brush over with retributor again and then lightly highlight with a very bright gold. I'd probably pick a different way to paint Lizardmen gold to keep it distinct.

Ok, pretty much everything in this picture needs at least some work done on it to get to finished but some of them are pretty close and it is in the playable army region of points:

Looking great. The spearmen and archers remind me of the 4th ed boxed set.

They rank up very nicely. The more recent spearmen and archers are hard to find on the sprue and often the second hand ones on sale have been put together... badly. A close up pic of the BSB Noble and the Mage from my first IoB set, I still have another one in grey plastic gotta work out if I should convert them a bit or just paint them up in a different, lore of magic themed, colour scheme. Today I'll be working on another 20 IoB Swordmasters to join the 10 in the previous photo and all 30 will have their bases painted.

Aren't IoB models just those push-fit ones? Suppose the mage conversion depends on how many spare elder/ elf bits you have. Escher arms might work on elves because they're skinny but you don't really want a mage with an autogun or something....
Yeah that battle standard looks awesome and makes me want to paint my R/wing sacred banner, which is double-sided (and the image on each side is reversed)
I have 2 HE metal archers undecoated white which will go nicely with yours. The metal models of that era were excellent compared to the plastics. IIRC one has no helmet, just flowing hair which has been meticulously combed. Finding them will be a task...

Can't find the charger for my camera right now :/ But I did the first round of wet blending on the phoenix. I also built ten Sisters of Averlon (can't find the second box right now); and I clipped and cleaned the resin on Alarielle and her handmaiden, but I'll have to straighten both staves because resin. The next thing is to apply a glaze and then probably re-highlight.

Found the second box of SoA this morning, also 10 Daemonettes which I built. It is pretty bad that Daemonettes rank up so well despite having, tails, crab claws, and diva hair; and SoA rank up so badly just because of their capes and bows are so fancy. Insult to ingury is because the kit and unit entry were new to 8th they could have just gone for the next base size up and had no problem D:<

The 30 Swordmasters look brilliant, as does the Phoenix.
So how many stages between the yellow and red on those feathers? Asking because I have an HQ Razorback flag with a Viking crow symbol, the background of which I need to blend from yellow to red. I'm using Jokaero orange as well (in the middle), which fells like its the wrong shade of orange.
Are SoA still available? The was a Chaos Warrior version of Chosen which got discontinued shortly before AoS hit, which was a shame, as it looked like the ultimate source of mutant bitz - even better than the Spawn kit.
