They used to have slavering charge 2 editions ago. I think it was +1 attack wich was better. I always imagined them jumping on their prey and just ripping them apart like the resident evil dogs

Well i'm sure an extra attack might be nice but i'd prefer a strength boost. You see i have skaven and with 8th edition they only allow 1 supporting attack. You can have like 4 attacks per guy in a front rank but the 2nd or 3rd rank can only ever attack once. Considering this is a flanking unit i'd prefer the strength bonus for everybody during the charge.
Not entirely sure i like how they handled flanking units in 8th but skaven doesn't have many effective flanking units anyway. Really the idea with skaven is just to flank with big units if you even can. Most of our units are movement 5 or 6 and the best are all random movement. The idea of heroes like the flanking chieftain that gives re-rolls to clanrats or stormvermin isn't even as good as it could be. Sure he can jump out of units and into new ones but if you're not in a unit's flank or rear it doesn't do much and he was released during 8th when flanking isn't that big of a deal unless you negate the enemy's steadfast.
Resident evil dogs would be pretty cool actually. I like the look of the current dire wolves and the dark eldar's crazy dog-like beasts.

It used to be very good, considering small cavalery units ruled more in those times. all you had to do is kill the first rank and the opponent wouldn't fight back. So the more attacks you got, the better.

Yeah in 8th large units are prefered i think. If you get hit in the flank or rear by an enemy and have more ranks you'll still be steadfast no matter the combat resolution. If you have a general nearby or a leader in the unit it's all the better. All you have to do at that point is hold and then use your leadership to reform (as long as it doesn't take more models out of combat which it shouldn't in many cases) and then bam you're face to face with said enemy. If the enemy relies heavily on the charge and sucks right afterwards like plague censers, cavalry and light skirmisher type units then you'll probably lose and die the very next combat phase.
