Those demigryph knights are actually pretty nasty. The lances, armor and speed of knights combined with all the nastiness of ogre-sized creatures (like rat ogres and trolls) for the monsters they ride. Then we have markus wulfhart which is a monster killing hero supposedly. There are witch-hunters which seem to give bonuses against enemy mages. Finally we get these new magical war machines.
I'm kind of struck dumb how to handle an empire army anymore. They have fast cavalry that are really hard to kill except if i maybe use 'cracks call'. They have insane war machines. They have a monster killing hero if all their guns weren't already more than enough. They've always had a ton of shooting. Their melee isn't too bad and due to special rules they outflank a lot (or at least did in the previous army book). Finally their magic is pretty strong.
I know this is just from looking at their stuff and i haven't seen the army book yet but this kind of bothers me. I hope like hell a lot of the cheesy empire abilities and items are gone (pidgeon bombs, etc.) or at least are re-worked to have less insane rules. I mean i actually own the vampire counts army book and have trouble thinking of how to counter the coven throne with my skaven. I know the points of each of these often show but i wish i had some ultimate death unit. The hellpit is good but it's hardly a showing when everybody else has big monsters too.
