Dave might be happy to hear this but i lost to the warriors of chaos. That said i feel i did well for my first time against them and everything said with him taking the first turn, having like 10-12 magic dice for casting each magic face just based on his rolls and no buffs and 2 insane courage rolls with two different units when he needed about 4's on 2 of his units.
If he didn't use a magic spell (that remains in play) to force my plague monks to move to a corner of the board and do nothing the whole game i very well might have won.
He did similar for my bodyguard of queek stormvermin but since he accidentally had to charge his mark of khorne warriors of chaos against the remaining clanrats that fled (only 10-15 clanrats were left alive or so and i wanted them to flee anyway) and managed to clip my stormvermin he had to fight them (which turned out to be really good for me). The spell didn't come into effect because he charged me or at the very least it was somewhat negated and i ended up killing his warriors of chaos with mark of khorne (which once again rolled double 1's for leadership and took two turns to kill off though i was destroying them). In one of the turns queek fought his wizard because he had to due to a special rule and queek murdered the crap out of him with like 5 wounds that go through armor.
Queek then had to face sigvald because he always has to issue a challenge to which he died.
I also was a good sport and helped him out with certain things when it would've hurt me. He didn't help me back and charged one of my units without allowing me to stand and shoot and when i remembered he told me he just wanted me to forget. Not like it mattered as said unit died anyway.
If i remember my opponent said he had 20 warriors with the mark of khorne and 20 warriors with the mark of either tzeentch or slannesh (it was harder to hit him i think with a +3/++6 or maybe ++5). That said there were only 5 warriors of chaos left of tzeentch or slaanesh and they had a BSB and sigvald the magnificent left in them.
In his first turn of magic my opponent just killed off half my clanrats or so with a toughness test or die magic spell that doesn't allow i think any saves (it's like plague except a bit better i think).
The main star for me was the hellpit which i'd say did the most damage. I tried to flank some warriors of chaos and ended up hitting some chaos knights in their front rank. There was probably 10 of them though i can't remember. The hellpit killed like 6 of them in the first phase of combat and only took like 2 wounds. If i remember he would've needed to roll a 4 on leadership and made it on double 1's (total bullshit). That said the hellpit killed them all next phase of combat anyway. Then afterward it proceeded to kill off a hellcannon it clipped but got killed off by the chaos dwarf crewmen.
The clanrats held and died mostly. Mostly thanks to the BSB and queek they pretty much held at like Ld 10 and a re-roll for leadership. There was a standard that cost 75 pts or so and reduced leadership by 1 but due to 'strength in numbers' with queek i think they were at leadership 10 anyway since queek is the general at leadership 8 and gives it to any unit in 12" and then my ranks give me a leadership boost of 1 to a max of 3 from 3 ranks beyond the first.
The gutter runners scouted and killed the marauders with flails for the entire run of the game. If nothing else they shot all but 4 of the marauders to death of about 20 guys (maybe they were the ones who made insane courage as i think they were). The 4 marauders then charged my 15 gutter runners which killed all 4 of the marauders with enough to spare before the marauders even attacked back. He told me the unit of marauders with flails was only 5 pts per model. That honestly surprises me as that sounds far too good for its points cost. If that is the case my unit 15 models of 300 pts gutter runners taking out 200 pts worth of 40 marauders with flails was probably not worth it.
The 2 warp lightning cannons i had didn't do a whole lots but killed off a few guys. I was mostly bummed that the shots kept firing past the units of warriors of chaos or if they hit dead on they ended up being like strength 2 and doing no wounds because the strength was so poor. That said i probably killed 10 warriors of chaos with both of them combined. The daemon prince also managed to kill one of them by winning combat and then forcing the war machine to flee and auto-die.
The warpfire thrower killed off maybe 3-5 guys but probably about 4 or 4 and some damage to a character or something. He killed said warpfire thrower with magic next turn though considering he shot a magic missile or similar at it which did about 3 wounds and killed it by one getting through.
The poisoned wind mortar didn't do much and actually hurt me a bit if i remember correctly. It may have done a bit in part of the game but i don't remember and don't think so. That said i do think i forgot to shoot it on my first turn.
The fellblade warlord of 190 pts managed to charge out of his unit and kill a greater daemon of khorne. He got charged by a unit but i held and then challenged a champion or other hero (which luckily had to accept the challenge because of some chaos rule) which he killed but i still failed combat and ran away and managed to get away. I later tried using him to kill off a daemon prince and he failed to wound said daemon prince at all but he managed to take 3 wounds which was just enough for him to get killed. It would've been nice to have at least tacked on a few more wounds to the daemon prince or to finish him off later but oh well.
The BSB managed to kill off a few dudes with the halberd i gave him which was honestly a pretty good buy for 4 pts.
A warlock managed to skitterleap somewhere and throw down a death globe (toughness test with no armor saves allowed) and i can't remember how much that did if anything. I think it killed a few guys. That said the very next turn the daemon prince just ran him down. I think next time i'll just use a warlock and brass orb vs war machines.
Finally the plague censers just charged his daemon prince and all died to it within one round of combat when he unleashed a ridiculous amount of shit into it like a breath weapon, attacks and a thunderstomp. I honestly wasn't expecting much but he also had a helm or something which reduced their strength by 2 so their flails were wounding on 6's on the first turn i was in combat with the daemon prince. Had i known he had all that shit tucked away i would've shot it with a warp lightning cannon to death.
I also sadly tried casting the dreaded 13th spell twice and failed both times. I came to within 2 to cast and succeed during my 2nd time casting it but it still failed. I think all my other magic except skitterleap failed though i was banking hard on the 13th spell and most of the rest were out of range or probably wouldn't have done much considering the plague priest had 'plague' and 'bless with filth' and were out of range almost the entire game.
---------------------------------
My opponent kept using spells to force my units to move in different directions on the board and on the first turn killed off half my clanrats. I'd say my biggest problem is i thought warriors of chaos were super scary and sort of waited in the back with my guys. That said i was more shooty than him and probably would've won that contest but his magic throwing my dudes off in the middle of nowhere did not help. In fact had it not been for that spell messing with my plague monks and plague furnace as well as making my 2 plague spells on the plague priest a waste of points i very well may have stomped him and won the game. It also did not help he had a couple irresistible forces (only one of which hurt him horribly and finished off one of his sorcerors) and more importantly the 2 insane courages in one game.
So yeah the whole game was won/lost because my plague monks, priest and furnace were forced to run to a random corner all game.
Of his units i'd say the warriors did a decent amount but they weren't as killy as some people would have you believe or at least the tzeentch ones weren't so nasty. I mean i've faced swordmasters in melee. Warriors of chaos aren't that bad in comparison. Difference is warriors have a pretty solid stat-line, armor and wargear with not really any weaknesses.
His daemon prince is pretty scary. I think i'll use the warp lightning cannons on it next time or throw a doomwheel at it and see if the warp lightning hurts it any. The only reason why i threw my plague censers at it was that my censers had to hit combat pretty much or things could've gotten much uglier and they would've been out in the open not doing much of anything. I was planning to win the combat with the daemon prince after a ton of casualties and then to overrun into the flank of the warriors of chaos with mark of tzeentch. That said that was probably a horribly idea even if said unit made it into their flank but a bunch of strength 5 attacks with hatred is never a bad thing esp. in a unit's flank.
If i remember his hell cannon didn't do a whole hell of a lot (stupid pun). The one time i think it shot it managed to fire wildly off target and then in 2 of its turns it just stumbled around after my closest unit doing nothing because he failed 2 leadership tests at separate times or something. He got lucky and put a few wounds on my hellpit and then the crewmen finally killed it off. I think he had another lucky leadership test with them. God his rolls for leadership and how many dice he had for magic that game were utterly stupid.
Like i said i thrashed his knights with my hellpit and his knights only did a couple wounds to it and nothing else all game.
His marauders with flails also basically just did nothing all game except die to my gutter runners shooting.
So yeah that was basically the game. I didn't throw this in turn order but i think it'll give everybody an idea of what happened. I wasn't that impressed with the warp lightning cannons this game surprisingly. Maybe i just should've placed the shots farther back. They are very random when shooting at units rather than multiple wound models as you want them to hit in the middle and then blow up. I think all game i may have had one good shot land on target at one unit of warriors of chaos and it was still in its corner a bit.
