Thoughts on the new Vampire Counts Army Book

Wait which one are you talking about? You mean the BSB? Warpfire throwers seem like a good idea against a lot of them. Still the problem about skaven is most of their units have shit leadership so if they try shooting at the coven throne it could end badly unless they have special attacks that don't use BS. I suppose that means the warpfire throwers would be decent to use against them but still i dunno. Anything that doesn't roll to hit normally. In most cases even the hellpit could do ok against it but the problem is that thing is stacks with vampires and that's a bad prospect to fight in melee.

The problem about vampire counts is they have van hel's danse macabre and that gives them always strikes first and re-rolls to hit as well as movement boost if i remember correctly. Ugh i hate how skaven are supposed to be so super fast and then the 'always strikes first' and possible re-rolls negate that. If i remember orcs have something for 'always strikes first' and high elves and other elves have their crap. So many armies in the game have re-rolls or hatred based armies (vampire counts, high elves, dark elves, beastmen, orcs i bet). It just gets so annoying.

yeah it's one of the vampiric powers.

I quote from the vampire army book:

"fear tests caused by the vampire or his unit that have been passed by an enemy unit must be re-rolled. If a battle standard bearer is conferring its hold your ground ability to the testing unit, the two rules cancel each other out"

And orcs handle always strike first with the arachnarok spider catapult, who confers always strike last for a turn. And maybe a bit with having enough boyz to soak up the initial casualties.

Fear is just annoying but that 'always strikes first' plus re-roll combo is really worth worrying about. Skaven are supposed to be super fast so when the enemy gets always strikes first and/or re-rolls it just super annoying.

At least skaven has some ok offensive magic and boosts. Plague is great but i'm pretty sure some other race has a very similar power without the possible side effects.
